1950s

Annual report, 1950

International Silver Company. (1950). Annual report. [Includes spotlight on recognition of Richelieu and Royal Danish by "a jury of 26 top decorators, designers and buyers" in LIFE magazine, and mentions of 1847 Rogers Brothers / (Meriden Britannia Company), Holmes & Edwards Silver Company, International Sterling.] 16 pp. (Updated 30 August 2017. A00548; AAA00667.)

Extended quote from 1950 annual report

"In a recent LIFE editorial, home furnishings were featured... the choice of a jury of 26 top decorators, designers and buyers. To quote:

Year by year the U. S. has seen a steady rise in the quality of home furnishings made by a growing group of American manufacturers. Their skilled workmen are turning out an increasingly fine finished array of furniture, tableware and home-furnishing accessories.’

’To find out which of these manufacturers are doing the best work, LIFE asked a jury of 26 top decorators, designers and department store buyers to list the best ones on a secret ballot. Then the manufacturers who received the most votes were invited to submit examples of what they considered their best work. They were asked to guide themselves, not by the sales popularity of any item they made, or by its price, but solely by its beauty, its craftsmenship, and the pride with which they made it.’

’ We are proud to say that International Sterling is one of only two lines to be represented— and that RICHELIEU and ROYAL DANISH were chosen— another fine tribute to International Silver Company craftsmen.’" (ISC annual report, 1950)
