Wilcox & White pianola Wilcox & White music roll

"The Wilcox & White Organ Company are probably as well known in the musical trade as any concern in their line. The company was organized in 1877, and has a capital of $250,00. The plant, which is located on Cambridge street, is an imposing structure, giving employment to about two hundred hands. The Wilcox & White organ stands among the most celebrated reed instruments. The development of the reed organ to its present state is largely due to the practical knowledge of W. H. White, the pioneer organ-builder. One of the important inventions of this company is their "Pneumatic Symphony", or self-playing organ. This instrument has the feature of an ordinary organ and can be used as such. It is alsp supplied with [a] mechanism whereby perforated paper is used as a medium for automatic playing. By virtue of this, and using the pedals and stops, the most intricate and beautiful music is produced without touching the fingers to the key-board..." [Excerpt from (c. 1897).
