"The Wilcox & White Organ Company are probably as well known in the musical trade as any concern in their line... One of the important inventions of this company is their "Pneumatic Symphony", or self-playing organ. This instrument has the feature of an ordinary organ and can be used as such. It is also supplied with [a] mechanism whereby perforated paper is used as a medium for automatic playing. By virtue of this, and using the pedals and stops, the most intricate and beautiful music is produced without touching the fingers to the key-board..." [Excerpt from (c. 1897). The New England states, their constitutional, judicial, educational, commercial, professional and industrial history, vol. 2., pp. 929-30. See listing of this source, and link, on the parallel W&W design catalogues and historical information webpage linked above.]
