1901 - news brief - Simeon L. Rogers passes away

Bristol, CT, July 21. (25 July 1901). Suit caused [Rogers’] death. Meriden Weekly Republican, p. 2, col. 5. (Viewed 24 November 2020. F01859).

"Simeon L. [Rogers] of the silverware firm of S. L. and G. H. [Rogers], who was stricken with apoplexy... died late this afternoon. Excitement due to a suit now pending in the United States district court at Hartford, which was brought by the International Silver company... is thought to have been the cause of the shock... " (Excerpt from above.)

"The International Silver company has brought suit in the district court of the United States against... [persons] who are dealers in silver plated ware, under the firm name of S. L. & G. H. Rogers. It alleges that the defendants are infringing a trademark.

The company states... that in May, 1899, it became owners of the Meriden Britannia company and the William Rogers Manufacturing company, including the trademarks of the companies. It claims that the defendants are selling silverware under the trademark of ’Rogers Brothers’ and ’Rogers’ similar to those of the company..." (Excerpt from above.)
