SIMPSON, HALL, MILLER & CO., Wallingford, Conn.
In 1866, [Samuel Simpson] started another business in Wallingford under the name of Simpson, Hall, Miller & Co. In 1878, when the last contract between Wm. Rogers, Jr. and the Meriden Britannia Co. expired, Simpson made a fifteen year agreement with Rogers to supervise production and marketing of a brand called (Eagle) Wm. Rogers (Star). Although this mark had been used on coin silver by the original Rogers brothers, this was the first use on silverplate. In 1895, a few years before the International Silver Co. was formed, the company started making sterling silver. Eventually the entire plant was devoted to sterling, both flatware and holloware."
