Cosey Fanni Tutti Prostitution as triptych (2010)

Shock art. Shock rock. Extensive media coverage. Art history publicity structures have saturated our psyche with the power of Warhol. But what about something more in-your-face: the power of Cosey?

LEFT: For D.M. Gray: Brain stew/Jaded by Green Day, for its title and sound, fitting how I felt about female artists before finding Cosey’s work. RIGHT: For R.J. Preece: The shadow song by UCS, for its sounds, morality, ’wake-up call’ realism and (animal rights) activism aiming for media coverage and positive change.

"Forget new wave feminism
and all the bullshit theory spewed out in academia.

Looking back at 1976,
Cosey was the real thing,
the catalyst for the 90s
’I don’t give a crap what you think’ generation,
and one of my idols.

She set the precedent for female artists
to do what they wanted with self-representation
and wasn’t scared of the media.

In fact she twisted it around and became
one of the first media/comm art rockstars.

Cosey, we dedicate this to you.
